While these are essential in your arsenal against criminal activity, sometimes they just don't cut it. We can't assume that the burglar is a mentally stable person, or that that they have other problems (like drug addiction) that make them desperate. When we consider that the vast majority of burglars use a front of back door, or a window, to break into homes, the obvious answer is to use security devices that bar their entry. That's where home security doors and home security bars, for windows and doors, come into play.
Home Security Doors
These are heavy doors installed in front of your main front door. Typically made of iron, sometimes with a wire mess grid, once locked these doors will prevent anyone without a bulldozer from entering the front of your house. They don't have to be an eyesore either, as doors come with decorative features to improve their visual appeal. If you live in a neighborhood where break-ins are common, this could be part of your home security solution.
Home Security Bars
These bars include two types; the door jammer bar, and installed window bars. The extendable door jammer bar is very inexpensive and can be used on both patio sliding doors and regular internal doors. Wedging the bar into position takes seconds and anyone trying to open the door from outside will fail in their efforts.
Windows should be installed on the inside and certain safety measures need to be considered so that the window can be easily be opened from the inside encase of emergency. Even if a burglar breaks the window, they won't be able to gain access to your home when the window bars are locked into place.

Nice hub. I remember a friend being robed along with 5 or 6 neighbors. He immediately resorted to this kind of protection on windows and doors. Next time it happened, the neighbors got robed again, but he was safe. The thief was never found. It is a shame this kind of thing has to occur. We end up been prisoners on our own homes.
