Recommended Day-Trips From Annascual

For visitors to County Kerry in Ireland who want to enjoy many day-trips without lots of hassle or too much travel, a central place worth staying in is Annascaul on the Dingle Peninsula. Annascaul village is close in proximity to several sandy beaches, a lake, many mountains and quite looped road walks.

The village is welcoming and has ample accommodation and places to eat and drink for holiday makers. Lets take a look at one of the recommended day trips you can take using Anascaul as your base.

Inch Beach

Inch Beach is a short 10 minute drive from the village or if you choose to walk it you can take the Maum road (up the back of the village) for a pleasant walk that takes under 2 hours for average fitness levels. This is a lovely walk and you'll have splendid views of both Anascaul and inch so you'll want to bring your camera.

Inch Beach is approximately four miles long, consisting of fine sand and dunes. The gradual slope into the sea is not steep, making it great spot for supervised play with your children. Of course the little ones will enjoy making sand castles and burying mum or dad (or granny, grandpa, the dog and pretty much anyone) up to their necks in sand.

Walking

The beach is popular for many activities including long walks along the surf, which is often stunning and the sunsets are unforgettable. A lot of people enjoy walking the dunes too, it's a different experience of walking Inch Beach, and you'll enjoy the fantastic views of the entire area from atop some of the larger dunes.

Water Sports

Besides walkers, the beach is enjoyed by fishermen/woman, kite-surfers, regular surfers and for other water sports. For those interested in learning a bit about surfing you can rent a board, wet suit and get a surf lesson for a reasonable price all through the summer.

Food and Drink

If you want to grab lunch or dinner, you can eat in the old Strand Hotel and bar. It's been a long time since this premises was a hotel, but they do a good lunch and have a warm welcome for all. Across from the Strand, on the beach is Sammy's Stores, where you can get good pub grub, have a pint, or relax in the café which has large windows facing out to the sea, making the most of the seascape view. If you'd prefer a soft drink or ice-cream, you can also get those in Sammy's shop.

A short walk from the beach, you can follow the road to Foley's Bar, where you can also enjoy a hearty meal and a good pint of stout.

Relax Back At HQ

After a day on the beach you'll want to head back to your cosy Annascaul B&B to put your feet up for a while, before heading out to one of the eight public houses in the village for an evening of craic agus ceol.

This is just one of the many hassle free day trips you can enjoy from your Annascaul Village HQ!
